Automation of the Office Administration:

National Informatics Centre(NIC) is a premier organisation in the field of Information Technology (IT) in India. It provides state-of-the-art solutions to the information management and decision support requirements of the Government and Corporate sector. NIC has set up a satellite-based nation-wide computer-communication network, called NICNET, with over 800 nodes connecting the national capital, the state capitals and district headquarters to one and another.

NIC, Erode District unit has started functioning from September 1988. The services provided by this centre includes Development & Implementation of Application Software Packages (for the use of Government Departments, Corporations), Training, Internet services, Electronic Mail, Data Communication, Data dissemination , Primary Census Abstract, MEDLARS (A Medical Bibliographic Information System) and GIS (Geographical Information System ).

The following Government Departments/Sectors have automated their administrative activities and are put in use for Office/Public.

16. Passport:
District Passport Cell has been started since Feb'2002. All the New Passport, Renewal Passport applications have been received, scrutinized and then Police Verification done locally and afterwards all the passport documents of the individuals are sent to the Regional Passport Office, Chennai for getting valid Passport. The Computer data are sent daily through E-mail to the Regional Passport Office. This facilitates the delay in serving the Passport to the public. An average of 10 to 15 persons are applying for Passport on working days.
